AB51 Education hosts a variety of services to aid with English learning.

Lesson Packs

Structured lesson packs based around the grammar, vocabulary, dialogues and culture cards found across the AB51.org site. Students will engage in the active learning of speaking and writing, with marked homework.

Lesson packs are ideal for students who want a traditional approach that tackles the distinct skills, creating a solid foundation for future fluency practice. Placing the skills in packs means students can choose areas they wish to improve rather than having open-ended classes. The tailor-made approach makes lesson packs perfect for one-on-one learning, although small groups can also benefit from targeting key areas.

Speaking Practice

Exactly as described, speaking practice is made for students who simply wish to have conversation practice with a native English speaker. With speaking often the biggest need, and barrier, to communication, regular contact with a native speaker helps build confidence, familiarity, speed of thought in English, and ultimately fluency.

Topics are flexible to suit the student’s interests, and can include anything from discussing news to practicing speeches.

Students are encouraged to record audio in order to familiarise themselves with accents and expressions outside the practice session. The tutor will provide written notes after the session to aid learning.

Writing Feedback

The opportunity to receive feedback, ideas, corrections, and suggestions on improving writing, all given by native speakers who have written in academic, social, and business situations.

Using written pieces provided by the student, or from topics chosen by the tutor, students will become familiar with the structures of writing and a better appreciation of language tone and word choice. More than theory, the writing feedback gives help with real-world end product, including improved emails, essays, documents, and even fiction.

*Note: Requests for feedback on academic work and applications are welcome. However, to preserve academic integrity this service does not involve the rewriting of academic work or school/university applications.

Techniques of Literature

Practice the skills of English writing while learning about the classics of literature. Become a better writer by walking through the works of Austen, Brontë, Conan Doyle, Dickens, and more.

Learning a variety of skills, ranging from onomatopoeia to similes, via assonance and irony, students learn how to make their own writing stand above the norm as well as recognise the techniques that great writers use.

Alongside understanding techniques, students are introduced to the literary themes and movements that helped make English literature world famous. Truly an English course for people who also enjoy beautiful words, high ideas, and being able to discuss works that live through history.

EQ: English Quizzing

Learn English while learning about the world!

Pub quizzes are one of the great social activities in the UK, as friends and colleagues gather to test their knowledge and enjoy time together. Winning is not important (although it feels nice): the quiz is basically a game that allows people to spend time together.

English Quizzing takes that idea and puts it into the ESL environment. Questions improve language and vocabulary skills, and answers are discussed with a native English speaker to improve pronunciation and fluency.

For competitive players, a league table will help show who is top of the pile, or even allow competition against other groups or businesses. However, the most important aspect remains that everyone enjoys and learns in a relaxed environment.
