The IELTS Reading test gives students 1 hour to answer 40 questions based on 3 texts. It is up to the student how much of the hour to spend on each text. Students doing the IELTS Academic Paper receive 3 texts on factual topics taken from magazines, books, newspapers etc. Students doing the IELTS General Paper receive 3 texts on everyday topics, such as newspaper articles, advertisements, letters etc.
